Kamianets-Podilskiy town hall belongs to civil buildings of the old town. The exact date of the house building is unknown. Some historians suppose that it was in XVI century, the others are disposed to XIV century. From the beginning of XV till the second part of XVII century the Russian and Polish magistrate had been placed in the house, and in XVIII century only the Polish magistrate. That’s why the second name of the building is the House of the Polish magistrate.
In the first part of XV century the building has had two floors and cellars. The tower has stood in three meters from its northern facade. Both buildings had the Gothic style. They were united in the unitary ensemble after the fire in 1616.
The decoration of the tower is the clock, set up at first time in XVIII century. It had two bells, which were made of copper and silver in 1753. The town hall had suffered a lot in 1850 after the fire and the clock has been working again in 1884.
The building had suffered during the Second World War. The first turn restoration was made in 1954-1955.
Nowadays the building is two-floored, right-angled volume with the cellars in plan and with the eight square tower. The town hall has a lot of rooms: 10 on the first floor and 9 on the second floor and in the cellars.
Today three cellar rooms are cleared away and the exposition “The Judgement of the Medieval Kamianets” is opened here.
In 1870-1917 the town police department was placed in the building. In 1967 the second floor of the town hall has become the one of the historical museum branches.
