The castle Palanok, the main attraction of the city, is seen already in some kilometers before Mukacheve. Its foundation is the extinct volcono with the high of 68 meters. Palanok is the invincible and the photogenic relic of the Middle Ages.
In IX-XI centuries the first wooden fortifying had appeared here. In XIII century the oak paling had changed into the brick walls. In 1396 Mukacheve had felt to the Prince Fedir Koriatovych’s lot.
It is supposed the magnate had strengthened the castle, had put a ditch round and remade it into its residence. And he had ordered to hollow out the well in the rock under the Old tower.
Palanok has already impressed by its impregnability: the walls 5 meters thick, the big constant garrison, 164 cannons, 60 barrels of powder, a lot of provisions....

The Old town of Kamianets, recognized the one of the seven Ukrainian wonders, has the unusual aura, which forces the tourists to come here again and again, in spite of that the places in some proper hotels must be reserved in some weeks before (such as “Gala-Hotel”, “Hetman”, “Cleopatra”, “Taras Bulba”). And the guides are telling, just made-up, but absolutely “true” stories about Ustym Karmeliuk and Franciscans.
The town yields by the number of monuments only to Kyiv or Lviv, and the picturesque canyon of Smotrych river, decorated with numerous towers and local legends, attracts the dreamers from all Ukraine. At first it is better to use...

The castle is situated on the picturesque hill surrounded from three sides with the wide pond. There are no documental facts about the time of its foundation. According to the researchers’ ideas it could be erected already in XV century.
In 1648 the fortifying has been destroyed by the Cossack detachments in the period of Polish-Cossack wars. Since the second half of XVII century the castle has been lapsing to the property of the count Alexander Tsentner, who had decided to rebuild it into the fortified residence.
During the reconstruction the fortifying territory has been considerably widen. The castle had consisted of two yards – the parade and the administrative, which had been situating on different levels and had been connecting with the stairs. According the planning...
