The Golden Gates in Kyiv – it is one of few monuments of Kyiv Rus defensive architecture, which had reached nowadays.

Kyiv has been surrounded with high earth banks 3,5 kilometers long. These banks lied across the present streets of the central part of Kyiv – from the Lviv’s Square along the Yaroslaviv Val Street to the Golden Gates.

The Golden Gates were the main entry to Kyiv. This wonderful creation of the Old Russian architects – the powerful fighting tower, which has been ended with the Annunciation Church – had compelled admiration of the contemporaries and had inspired the horror on the enemies with its impregnability. The time hadn’t kept the monument. From the traveler’s entries we know that already in XVI-XVII centuries the Golden...
