The Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kharkiv
Kharkiv State Ukrainian Academic theatre of opera and ballet named after M.Lysenko is the first Ukrainian stationary opera theatre. It stages the performances in Ukrainian, Russian, French and Italian. The theatre was organized in 1925 as Ukrainian State Capital Opera, on the base of constant opera enterprise.
Kharkiv enterprise had staged the Ukrainian operas, such as “The Christmas night” and “The sink woman” by M.Lysenko; since 1918 it was named People’s opera, since 1920 – Russian State Opera. 32 operas and 11 ballets were staged in the theatre till 1934. The numerous operas of the world and Russian repertory were staged.
